The iSchool welcomes proposals for new courses from all full-time faculty members. iSchool teaching expectations require full-time faculty members to use 2/3 of their teaching responsibilities to focus on classes that are already part of the schedule. To fulfill the other 1/3, if they wish, full-time faculty may propose to develop a new course. Before creating a syllabus, though, faculty members must propose their idea and discuss the ways in which it serves College-level and program-level strategic goals. This conversation will take place with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and one or more faculty program directors. Interested instructors should submit their ideas (title, paragraph-long summary, any additional notes) to the iSchool Academic Programs portal, using the “Propose New Course” option.

The graphic below illustrates the full process for creating new courses at the University of Maryland.
